Home Studio Ph: (204) 795-8484 Email: thetrainingcoop@gmail.com I have a spacious second-floor studio with high ceilings and over 20 linear feet of windows looking over the 40 acre Omand's Park and Creek on Raglan Road, the westernmost road of Wolseley, directly off of Portage Ave between Portage and the Assiniboine River, just east of the Polo Park shopping centre.
I have a front foyer/office area for consultations and a large, modern washroom and shower, as well as the studio, all self contained as a separate part of my home. The studio is stocked with a full compliment of free weights (hex-style dumbells, and collared dumb and barbells with weight plates), weight benches, fitness tree, medicine balls, kettlebells, a variety of exercise bands and balls, and more. There's a ceiling mounted TRX suspension trainer that is used to perform many excellent strength and cardio exercises, and even a double ended sparring bag to work out your day's frustrations.
For cardio specific work there's a Tacx virtual reality bike trainer that allows you to ride a selection of virtual courses as the resistance applied to your pedaling simulates hills, wind, and varied terrain, all while you view the course in real time on the monitor in front of you, and a top-end Cyclops bike trainer that can be easily adjusted to fit almost any rider and does an amazing job of measuring various performance matrices including power output as measured in watts. To balance the cycling we can also use the top end rowing machine that also measures many output levels including watts. To really mix things up we can also go outside to the adjacent park for activities like hill runs in the summer or snowshoe climbs in the winter.
Maybe most importantly, you're welcome to plug your iPod into the sound system or choose from satellite or cable music (or if you dare you can ask me to plug in one of my own mixes).
Generally I recommend that clients do at least some of their cardio work independently (after proper instruction, with the training plan I've given them in hand, and with lots of available feedback) instead of paying me to, for instance, watch them ride a bike for 45 minutes, but cardio equipment such as the Tacx and Cyclops trainers and the rowing machine are great for fitness testing and to occasionally do something a bit different.
